Abstract

The newsletter produced through the UC Cooperative Extension Stanislaus County program to deliver timely, science-based information for California’s nut and fruit industries. The newsletter translates applied research results, field trials, and seasonal observations into practical recommendations that support decision-making at the orchard scale. The primary audience includes commercial fruit and nut growers, farm managers, pest control advisers (PCAs), certified crop advisers (CCAs), irrigation and nutrient management consultants, and allied agribusiness professionals serving Stanislaus County and the broader North San Joaquin Valley. Each issue typically includes seasonally relevant guidance on irrigation scheduling and water management, nutrient management, integrated pest management (IPM), orchard establishment and production practices, and emerging challenges (e.g., new pests and diseases, sanitation and harvest considerations, and water sustainability topics). Issues are archived on the UC ANR website, providing an accessible, long-term reference library for stakeholders. The newsletter is distributed to 1,925 recipients per issue using a dual-delivery approach designed to maximize accessibility and reach. First, the newsletter is sent electronically via an email distribution list to deliver new-issue notifications and direct access to the online publication and downloadable documents. Second, printed copies are mailed to stakeholders who prefer or rely on hard-copy delivery. By distributing the newsletter through both email and postal mail, UCCE ensures that research-based recommendations and time-sensitive production updates reliably reach a broad cross-section of growers and industry partners, supporting adoption of improved practices that enhance orchard productivity, water-use efficiency, and long-term resilience.
