Abstract
Growing pineberries started as a COVID-19 at-home garden experiment. The author was looking to expand on what crops could be grown in Northern Illinois besides standard fruit recommendations. After looking at the niche fruits that could grow in USDA Hardiness Zone 5, Pineberries were selected and planted with overbearing strawberries. Using the information gathered from this experience and Extension resources, the author put together a blog article that was picked up by a local paper. From this article, the author was also interviewed by MarthaStewart.com for a national article on Pineberry growth and availability. The photo was published in the Over the Garden Fence Blog on May 20, 2024, and in the Shaw Media Down the Garden Path on May 29, 2024. The blog has had 90 views as of March 14, 2025. Shaw Media reaches over 2.5 million readers and listeners monthly across print, radio, and online platforms.
