Abstract

In the Horry County Frequently Asked Questions: Summer Edition – Clemson Cooperative Extension blog post, a photo with the caption "An American alligator on the edge of the Waccamaw River in South Carolina. Photo courtesy of Charlotte Maxwell." was published. The population in Horry County has increased by over 40% in the past 4.5 years, and many new residents have moved from an area where alligators do not live. Alligators have been pushed into residential areas across the county with the booming development. To educate the general public that alligators can be found in every body of fresh water and lead them to a resource on how to interact with them properly, this blog post was published and includes additional summer FAQs for the county. The photo was also used on Facebook to drive citizens to the blog post and reached 392 people.
