Abstract
West Virginia’s agricultural landscape is shifting. With farms averaging smaller acreages than the national norm and agricultural land declining, the pressure to maximize profitability has never been greater. As small-acreage farms increase, producers face new challenges that require innovative business strategies to thrive in this evolving environment.
This series equips producers with the knowledge and tools to not only establish new businesses but also transform their farms into resilient, sustainable enterprises. Treating the farm as a business is essential to long-term success, with proper planning and financial management serving as key drivers of profitability.
Additionally, addressing estate planning and Heir’s property issues is crucial. Without a clear plan, producers risk losing land or having it mismanaged across generations. By incorporating these legal and financial strategies, farmers can ensure their legacy continues, securing their family’s future and preserving West Virginia’s agricultural heritage.
