Position Summary:
The College of Agriculture and Life Sciences is seeking to hire an Assistant or Associate Professor for a tenure track position as an Extension Educator in the University of Idaho Extension department in Ada County. Rank is negotiable depending on how the candidate meets the criteria outlined in department and college bylaws.
The Educator will provide Extension (90%) leadership with a primary emphasis in all county and some district Horticulture programs. The Educator will provide assistance in university outreach where appropriate. They will plan, develop, implement, evaluate, and report horticulture programs for homeowners, nursery and landscape professionals, gardeners and small acreage landowners. In cooperation with area green industry businesses, governmental agencies and University of Idaho Extension Specialists and Educators, they will plan, develop and implement educational programs in community and commercial horticulture. With direction from local advisory committees, they will develop and facilitate collaborative educational programs that meet clientele needs (e.g. low-water landscape, integrated pest management, composting, fruit production, urban forestry, turf grass and nursery production areas). The Educator will provide leadership for the Ada County and district Master Gardener, Advanced Master Gardener, Master Composter, and other area horticulture programs. They will evaluate programs and document impact of educational interventions related to knowledge increase, adoption of recommended practices and evidence of widespread successful management of natural resources. In addition, the Educator will provide county and multi-county support for 4-H Youth Development in the Horticulture project area as a minor area of responsibility. They will participate in applicable university, college, Extension, district, and community committees and perform other service assignments (5%). The educator will conduct scholarship/creative activities (5%).
Minimum Qualifications:
• A master's degree from an accredited institution, completed by the date of hire.
• Experience providing organizational structure and support for a variety of individuals and groups in an educational or service setting.
• Experience collaborating in teams focused on achieving positive educational outcomes for learners.
• Experience adapting research materials into oral and written presentations.
• Experience using computer technology to market and deliver programs and communicate with stakeholders and clientele.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Master's degree from and accredited institution in a horticulture related area that may include, Horticulture, Plant Science, Soil Science, Entomology, Extension Education, or other related Agricultural/Natural Resources Science degrees.
• Direct personal work experience as a horticulture professional or experience serving commercial Experience providing effective instruction, support, and promotion for educational programs.
• Experience in needs assessment and program evaluation.
• Experience in disseminating research results through scholarly outlets such as refereed /peer reviewed publications and/or presentations to peer audiences.
• Knowledge of Ada County and the surrounding area.
• Knowledge of Hispanic culture and ability to speak/read Spanish.
• Experience in volunteer recruitment and management.
