As part of MSU Extension (MSUE), the Agriculture and Agribusiness Institute (AABI), and MSU AgBioResearch (ABR), this position will conduct programming and applied research to address challenges germane to the juice and wine grape industries in southwest Michigan. This position will collaborate across work teams, Institutes, and community groups, working with faculty, specialists, and educators for overall advancement of the needs of clientele.
In this position, you will identify, design, and implement both educational and research projects that address priority concerns of juice and wine grape growers, and evaluate research-based programs that meet industry needs. This may include improved horticultural methods, understanding of emerging grape production systems, integrated pest management, financial management, as well as alternative and emerging markets. Your work will include completing on-farm consultations, virtual and in-person meetings, and conducting demonstrations and on-farm research.
Through collaboration in research, engagement with grape growers, and dissemination of research through various methods, including in-person and multimedia programming and written communications, you will implement programs that lead to public knowledge, attitudes, and behaviors that improve the viability of juice and wine grape industries. You will also develop, produce, and deliver outreach materials with messaging and content that is accessible and inclusive and is consistent with AABI and ABR messaging.
Your work will include close collaboration with MSU colleagues, as well as the diverse network of partner groups that include grape societies and commodity associations. Acting as a statewide point of contact, you will provide support for AABI and ABR in determining programmatic needs across the state.
Minimum Qualifications (see full description for complete list of requirements)
Master’s degree in horticulture, entomology, plant pathology, or crop science, with knowledge of integrated pest management, or related field.
Persons with a Ph.D. in horticulture, entomology, plant pathology, or crop science with a background in viticulture are encouraged to apply.
