MU Extension seeks to fill multiple field specialist positions focused on agricultural business and farm management. Field Specialists primarily serve counties within their region, while collaborating with each other and faculty based in Columbia, Missouri.

 

MU Extension Agricultural Business programs help people make better business decisions. Topics include farm business financial management, business plans, budgets, pricing, recordkeeping, taxes, regulations, risk management, access to loans or grants, leases, farm transition, value-added agriculture, and tools that help businesses start, expand, diversify, or become more profitable.

 

Specialists will work with a range of producers based on the agricultural practices located in their region, from commodity producers to diversified value-added producers. This position is a 12-month, ranked, non-tenure track appointment at the rank of assistant, associate, or full Extension Professional.

 

Core Duties of MU Extension Faculty:

  • Educate. MU Extension specialists design, conduct, and evaluate educational programs. Specialists teach research-based information via in-person and online courses, technical assistance, field days, media, websites, and other methods.
  • Create. MU Extension specialists develop innovative and research-informed educational materials, often with the support of extramural funding.
  • Connect. MU Extension specialists engage with learners, stakeholders, volunteers, and communities. MU Extension specialists listen and respond with care and intentionally foster engaged partnerships and robust connections to the University of Missouri.

Minimum Qualifications:

Academic qualifications include an earned master’s degree, MBA, Ph.D., or other applicable terminal degree in agricultural economics, agricultural business, agricultural marketing, business administration, business management, finance, urban agriculture, food systems, or a closely related field at time of appointment.

Candidates will be evaluated on:

  • Knowledge of agricultural business, farm financial management, enterprise development, marketing, risk management, and/or local food systems.
  • Demonstrated capability to apply and translate research-based knowledge into educational programs in farm and agricultural business management.
  • Ability to provide practical assistance in business plans, marketing plans, enterprise budgets, pricing strategies, recordkeeping, and related decision-making tools.
  • Effective and innovative teaching strategies and strong communication skills.
  • Ability to collaborate and work in teams.

Salary Range:

$58,000 and up depending on years of experience.
