Abstract

Twenty-eight essential oil-type cultivars of industrial hemp (Cannabis sativa L.) were grown to full maturity in a controlled environment. Data were collected on various plant growth parameters to assess cultivar characteristics with the goal of identifying suitable cultivars for commercial hemp producers. Cannabinoid analysis took place to examine concentrations throughout different plant strata to further validate the regulatory sampling protocol mandated by United States Department of Agriculture. Results of this study indicate plant strata do not affect cannabinoid concentrations in mature hemp plants. Commercial hemp producers should identify desirable traits specific to their operation to best identify a suitable cultivar.
